About the District

With its strong ties to the 25 communities it serves, South Orange County Community College District links higher education to the quality of life and economic vitality of Orange County while helping generations of residents to fulfill their learning aspirations.

Distinguished faculty from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo and Irvine Valley College in Irvine provide students with rigorous academic classes, as well as state-of-the-art professional, vocational and skills training. Students, ranging in age from teens to retirees, receive cutting edge, “real world” training, making them highly competitive in the job market. For older, retired students, the Emeritus Institutes offers challenging and enriching special interest courses covering a broad spectrum of educational topics. Vibrant Community Education programs provide myriad lifelong learning opportunities for community members of all ages.  Our newest campus, the Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP), opened in Tustin the Fall of 2007 by offering courses from Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College, and the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies.

The District is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Trustees.  The chief executive officer is the Chancellor to whom the College Presidents and Provost report.

District Services is an administrative support organization to our three campuses.  The executive offices are the: Office of the Chancellor and Trustee Services; Office of the Vice Chancellor, Business Services; Office of the VIce Chancellor, Technology and Learning Services; and Office of the Vice Chancellor, Human Resources.  The departments within District Services are: accounting, benefits, facilities planning, fiscal services, human resources, information technology, institutional research and planning, payroll, public affairs, purchasing, risk management, and warehouse/mailroom.  A management organizational chart is available in the related topics box at right.

The primary feedback mechanisms in place to assess the effectiveness of District Services are over 20 district-wide standing committees and task forces established to accomplish specific projects.  The committees are inclusive of every shared governance group and all three campuses.  The list of committees is available in the related topics box at right.
