FRANK M. MELDAU, pH.D.

Area 7: Includes parts of Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and unincorporated areas

Trustee Frank “Mike” Meldau, Ph.D., was appointed on January 13, 2011 to serve the remainder of the term for Area 7 until November 2012. Area 7 represents Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita and unincorporated areas.

Dr. Meldau has a strong education background. He has taught at Loma Linda University. “I am a strong supporter of the community college system, having started at a community college myself,” he stated. “I am excited and honored to have this opportunity to take an active role in the district's leadership and assist students in their success.”

He currently serves as a licensed clinical forensic psychologist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. His previous experience includes previous positions with the County of Orange Health Care Agency, hospitals, the U.S. Army and Loma Linda University. He is a member of the International Association for Forensic and Correctional Psychology and the Forensic Mental Health Association of California. He is also actively involved in the community, supporting a variety of agencies such as ASPCA, World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club, Angeles for the Arts, KOCE and others.

Dr. Meldau is particularly proud of his personal involvement in raising his daughter, now 24, who recently graduated from California State University, San Marcos. He has learned a great deal about the challenges in higher education through her recent experiences. He understands the hurdles that students face in attaining their education and sees first-hand the need for society to focus on providing opportunities for all individuals to obtain an education.

Regarding his involvement on the Board of Trustees, Dr. Meldau comments, “I look forward to providing direction and oversight that reflects the needs of the community while balancing the challenges we face from the state budget crisis.”

Dr. Meldau earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from California State University, Fullerton; a Master of Arts degree in General Psychology from Pepperdine University; and a Ph.D. in Education and Counseling Psychology from University of Southern California. He lives in Mission Viejo. Contact Trustee Meldau at: fmeldau@socccd.edu.
