- Trustees
congratulated newly appointed Trustee Frank M. Meldau,
IVC's women's golf team state champions, and the 2010 Manager and Administrator
of the Year on their accomplishments; Trustee Thomas A. Fuentes
gave a report on the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative
Task Force activities at the upcoming CCLC conference with an event
to honor members of the state Education committee; Trustees encouraged
attendance at the upcoming Presidents Cup basketball game between Saddleback
and IVC; Chancellor Gary Poertner gave an update on
the dire projections coming out of Sacramento regarding the state budget.
He expressed concern over discussion of Prop 98 cuts or suspensions
which could lower statewide community college budgets by 6-14%; he said
the impact of these potential cuts on our district, which uses basic
aid funding, is unknown at this time.
- District
Director of Facilities and Planning Brandye D'Lena presented
information and led a discussion on Project Planning at Saddleback College,
Irvine Valley College and Advanced Technology and Education Park (ATEP).
She gave an update on projects identified in the 2006 master facilities
plan and presented
information on capital improvements projects for the board to consider
and prioritize such as the Science building at Saddleback and the first
building at ATEP. She discussed funding disadvantages, stressing the
state's current lack of assistance with capital project funding; and
funding advantages, including the New Market Tax Credits program for
ATEP. David Hunt from gkkworks architects outlined
the financial advantages of building now while costs are lower due to
the economic downturn and provided recent pricing examples.
- Dr.
David P. Bugay, Acting
Vice Chancellor of Business Services and consultant Dante Gumucio
from Public Economics, Inc., gave an update on the immediate New Market
Tax Credit funding opportunities that could net $11.6M in funding for
a building at ATEP.
- Saddleback
College - President Tod Burnett's written report included
mention of:
a new tradition to host dinner for part-time faculty during in-service
week; presentation of the SC President's Awards for Leadership and Innovation
to Librarian Elizabeth Horan, Community
Education Director Estella Castillo-Garrison,
and Senior
Fiscal/Veterans Specialist Don Lindboe;
invitation to attend the Presidents' Cup annual basketball competition
between the Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College men's and women's
basketball teams; a welcome to Dean of Business Science, Economic &
Workforce Development, Rocky Cifone, and Acting Director
of Economic & Workforce Development, Tracy Daly;
and highlights of many successful, well-attended entertainment events
at the McKinney Theatre.
- Irvine
Valley College - President Glenn Roquemore's written report
included mention of: IVC's first-ever French film festival to be held
from March 25 to April 2, 2011; the 24th annual Astounding Inventions
competition will be held on January 29; kudos to the IVC Model UN Team
for winning top awards at the Annual OC Model United Nations Conference;
John Perry, distinguished artist and teacher to offer
a benefit concert on January 29; a welcome to the Dean of Academic Programs,
Student Learning, and Research, Dr. Kathleen Werle
and Director of Technology Services, Bruce Hagan; and
congratulations to IVC Music Majors Mathieu Girardet and Jeff
Ramo for selection to the College Band Directors National Association
Small College Intercollegiate Band (SCIB).
- ATEP -
Associate Vice Chancellor Randy Peebles' written report included
mention of: Phase
One demolition of former marine base buildings is on schedule with Phase
Two planned between March and June 2011; preliminary proposal for a
10 acre land swap to improve the configuration of the District's ATEP
property and provide a more favorable site for development; discussions
with the City of Tustin regarding future land use, site planning and
potential land exchanges that would better serve both public agencies;
IVC's administration and oversight of the existing 1.5 acre campus with
courses offered by both Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College.

Television broadcast is scheduled for 7pm on both Friday, January 28 and
Saturday, January 29, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley
College Channel 33. SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday,
January 30 at 7pm.
