Student
Trustee Eve Shieh was honored with
a plaque and resolution for her year of service representing students
on the Board of Trustees. She balanced the demands of her position and
academic workload with other campus leadership efforts, including Phi
Theta Kappa, Relay for Life, Inter-Club Council and community volunteering
at an animal shelter. |

Classified Employee of the Year 2010-2011
Anita
Bandekar, a senior lab technician in the biological sciences
department was honored as employee of the year. She is known for her care
and concern for the college's microbiology students, setting high standards
and dedication to quality and improvement that enabled the department
to increase its number of sections. |

Classified Employee of the Year 2010-2011
Jamie
Smith, a senior lab technician in the physical sciences department,
has served the district for 22 years. She is known for her hard work and
commitment to excellence, fairness and professionalism, often volunteering
on field studies to help. Dr. Roquemore witnessed these qualities first-hand
when he was a faculty member in the department years ago. |

Classified Employee of the Year 2010-2011
Tasha
Trankiem has been with the district for more than 20 years and
is a key developer of the district's legacy technology systems in student
information, class scheduling, awards management and curriculum. She is
also the "go to" person for IT processes and procedures and
state and federal reporting. |

Speech and Debate Team
2011
State and National Champions
The
Board of Trustees and IVC President Roquemore honored
and congratulated students and coaches of the IVC Speech and Debate team
for their outstanding year which yielded a rare double gold in team sweepstakes
to earn state and national championships...the first time this has occurred
in the same year in
a decade. |

Investment Act contracts between Irvine Valley College and both the
Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board and the City of Anaheim for tuition,
fees and books related to approved certificates and degrees.
- Grant
funding in the amount of $666,667.00 to Irvine Valley College from the
California Community Colleges Chancellors Office for Career Development
Work-Based Learning Linkages to Professional Organizations.
- an agreement with Edge Development,
Inc. in the amount of $11,387,287.00 for the Irvine Valley College Life
Sciences building.
- additional
funding in the amount of $122,592.00 for engineering testing and inspection
for Saddleback's James B. Utt Memorial Learning Resource Center Renovation
project.
- an additional
$3.00 for Saddleback College parking citation fines to offset assessment
increases from the State.
- bid award
in the amount of $44,000.00 to Moalej Builders for Drainage Ditch Maintenance
and Repair at the ATEP site.
- appointment
of Trustees Lang, Padberg and Milchiker to serve on
the district's audit committee. A chair of the committee will be appointed
at a later date.
- adoption
of Resolution 11-07 approving the retirement incentive plan for full-time
faculty.
- adoption
of Resolution 11-11 regarding official policies and practices related
to invocations.
- a contract
with McKenna Long and Alridge, LLP, for advisory services related to
Base Closure and Realignment Commission issues for ATEP.
- authorization
for the Chancellor to seek and negotiate market rate lease agreements
with potential education, commercial, business, or agency partners for
the ATEP site, providing future district income to support buildings
and infrastructure.
- partnership
criteria for education, commercial, business or agency partners for
ATEP.
- demolition
of the chapel on the ATEP and initiation of planning for a memorial
to honor those who served at the former Marine Corps Air Station-Tustin.
- alternating
the student trustee position annually between the two colleges per revised
Board Policy 104.
- authorization
to seek proposals for lease/leaseback services.

- Trustees
Padberg, Prendergast and Meldau enjoyed attending the
Irvine Valley College groundbreaking for the new Life Sciences building.
Trustee Milchiker spoke at an Emeritus
Institute function and shared an article highlighting the importance
of lifelong learning. She also attended a special anniversary performance
of Aida at SC and a performance of Midnight Story
at IVC and remarked how extraordinary they were. Trustee Lang
thanked Student Trustee Shieh for her wonderful work
with the board. He is also looking forward to commencement, a great
time to celebrate our students' success. Student Trustee Shieh
attended Hands Across California at IVC with 70-80 students, a fundraising
event for scholarships and an opportunity to underscore the positive
impact that community colleges have on the state.
- Chancellor
Gary Poertner recognized the classified employees of the year
for their hard work and also mentioned that faculty of the year will
be honored in the fall. He echoed the sentiments of Trustee
Lang, stating that as commencement approaches, it's important
for us to recognize the success of our students and their central role
in everything we do. He mentioned some upcoming business items regarding
ATEP, including ongoing discussion, decisions and direction from the
Board of Trustees.

College - President Tod Burnett's reports included mention of:
attendance at CCC Athletics convention and Joint Higher Education
Advocacy day; Geography students field study to Owens Valley; Professor
Howard Gensler statistics book deal; revised Gerontology
Certificate program begins Fall 2011; speakers hosted on AIDS, Sexual
Assault, Equality Now, psychology, sociology, and veterans issues;
30 students participated in the Math, Science, Engineering Academic
Triathlon for cash awards; upcoming President's Panel for Economic
and Workforce Development April 29; new student success project launched;
student art exhibit; Mozart and Big Band concerts, spring musical
Aida and others.
- Irvine
Valley College - President Glenn Roquemore's reports included
mention of: IVC Speech and Debate Team winning both state and national
championships; college presentation on earthquake preparedness well
attended by faculty, staff and students; astounding inventions reception
hosted by Greenberg Traurig LLP awarded each winner a pro bono provisional
patent application; Life Sciences groundbreaking ceremony on April 7;
Hands Across California event was well attended to bring awareness to
students; IVC Foundation Awards Dinner to be held on April 26; PRO IVC
fundraising campaign raised $279,097.00 for students.

at www.socccd.edu. Television broadcasts are scheduled for 7pm on Friday,
April 1 and Saturday, April 2, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and
Irvine Valley College Channel 33. SC TV39 has an additional broadcast
on Sunday, April 3 at 7pm.
