- President
Donald P. Wagner shared his enthusiasm about a recent
visit to Ohlone College's Newark Center for Health Sciences & Technology,
a LEED Platinum campus in northern California. It was interesting to
see what they are doing and bring back ideas for our district. He congratulated
President Tod Burnett and Foundation Director Michelle
Anstadt for the moving Veterans Memorial preview event and
is looking forward to its official dedication. He recognized all the
planning efforts in the award and commencement ceremonies which went
off without a hitch. He acknowledged a very enjoyable competition in
the recent softball game between IVC and SC employees.

President John S. Williams welcomed Student Trustee
Bi'Anca Bailey. For the first time in 16 years as a
trustee, he was regretfully unable to attend graduation due to a family
emergency. He complimented the full page ad in the OC Register
and Register community editions which congratulated SC and
IVC graduates. He also discussed the visit to Ohlone College and shared
how impressed he was that their annual utility bill was only $75,000,
building temperatures were very comfortable, and the air quality was
excellent.

of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes welcomed the new student
trustee who will bring a new voice and participation to the meetings.
He extended his heartiest congratulations to the graduates.

board resolutions and welcomed the new student trustee.

David B. Lang welcomed Student Trustee Bailey
and mentioned the special opportunity and responsibility that she has
to serve students. He complimented the colleges' outstanding scholarship
and graduation ceremonies.

Marcia Milchiker welcomed the new student trustee
and commented upon this wonderful time of year for the colleges which
is filled with scholarship and commencement ceremonies and retirement
celebrations. She attended the SC Veterans Memorial preview and a Mother's
Day performance at SC of Lascivious Biddies.

Nancy M. Padberg welcomed Bi'Anca Bailey.
She listed the numerous events she attended during the big celebration
month of May including the SC Veterans Memorial preview, scholarship
and commencement ceremonies at both colleges, the “Sweeney Todd” performance
and President's reception at SC, and the KSBR-FM birthday bash.

Trustee Bi'Anca Bailey introduced her family. She attended
commencement ceremonies, the SC ASG banquet and the SC Scholar Baller
banquet which honored athletes who earned a 3.0 or higher.

Raghu P. Mathur gave a report on the trip to Ohlone
College's Newark Center for Health Sciences, which is near Oakland.
The 135,000 square foot facility is very similar to what is being planned
for ATEP and features instruction in the high growth, high pay careers
of biotechnology, environmental studies, energy technology, respiratory
therapy, nursing and physical therapy assisting, as well as general
education courses. The Newark Center
presents a wealth of ideas for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability
including solar power generation, geothermal heating and cooling,
and a fresh air transfer and energy recapture system, known as an enthalpy
wheel.

President Tod Burnett 's written report included mention
of: Professor Larry Perez being named Orange County
Community College Professor of the Year; Veterans Memorial preview event;
softball game between SC and IVC employees; over $220,000 awarded to
175 students at the scholarship ceremony; sold out Advanced Technology
& Applied Sciences Division Fashion Show; Emeritus Institute's first
symphony orchestra performance; and the women's tennis team capturing
the Orange Empire Conference title and going on to finish third in the
state.

mention of: 21st annual foundation awards dinner raising more than $43,000;
Steve and Joanie Woodard's contribution of $7,000 to
establish the Lloyd and Lauretta Dyer Family Foundation Scholarship
Endowment; President Roquemore being elected president
of the Southern California Community Colleges Chief Executive Officer
Association; and Kurt Meyer, Lisa Alvarez, Dale Carranza, Miriam
Castroconde, Traci Fahimi and Rebecca Welch receiving UCI
“Educator Recognition” awards.

Provost Randy Peebles' written report included mention
of: visit to Ohlone College's Newark Center and nursing simulation centers
in northern California; discussion of potential partnerships with colleges
and universities; designing ATEP marketing materials to promote fall
classes; and a web portal system in development to host expanded services
on the ATEP web site.
