THE BOARD ANNOUNCED THE FOLLOWING APPOINTMENTS:

THE BOARD RECOGNIZED...

The Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP) in celebrating one year of higher education opportunities for students. 

• President Donald P. Wagner congratulated Trustee Fuentes on his re-appointment to the national Advisory Board of the United States Election Assistance Commission. He recognized President Roquemore, Wendy Gabriella and all the team members who work so diligently on IVC's accreditation and preparing the reports.

• Trustee John S. Williams recalled attending SC 39 years ago and being in the college's second graduating class. His wife, daughter and son all have degrees from SC. He announced that he has filed for re-election to the board of trustees.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes welcomed the outstanding team who have joined the district today to advance the future of this district. He announced that he has filed for re-election to the board of trustees.

• Trustee William O. Jay mentioned that SC is celebrating its 40th anniversary. He has been proud to serve this terrific district for 34 years and wanted to say that things are really going well. He congratulated Dr. Burnett, Dr. Bramucci, Dr. Bugay and Ms. Daly on their appointments.

• Trustee David B. Lang thanked Chancellor Mathur and the Conservative Women's Leadership Forum for the opportunity to meet the new Orange County Sheriff, Sandra Hutchens. He congratulated Mary Williams and other members of the classified senate on being named a model classified senate by the state classified senate. He congratulated Trustee Fuentes on his reappointment to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. He looks forward to continuing to work with SC shared governance groups on accreditation recommendations, and acknowledged the leadership of Bob Cosgrove, Carmen Dominguez, Lise Telson, Morgan Barrows and members of the academic senate.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg welcomed the new college president and vice chancellors.

• Student Trustee Hannah H.E. Lee mentioned meeting the new OC sheriff. She also met with the new ASIVC president and helped with IVC welcome week activities.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur reported that for the first time in the history of the district the FTES (full time equivalent students) exceeded 25,000 for SC and IVC combined (ATEP numbers are included in the college totals). He acknowledged all the hard work of faculty and staff to serve as many students as possible. At the reception for the new OC sheriff he initiated a meeting with the SC and IVC police chiefs which will occur this week. He invited everyone to the August 19 Opening Session for fall semester which will be held at IVC Performing Arts Center at 8am. The keynote speakers will be Scott Lay, CEO of the Community College League of California, and Dr. Diana Van Der Ploeg, president of Butte College. He recognized Mary Williams for her contributions in creating a state-recognized classified senate.

• SC Office of the President's report included mention of: Veterans Memorial construction underway; Transfer Center workshops and activities; graduation of 25 medical assistant students; construction underway of the Fine Arts restrooms; choir and theatre auditions;Tuttle  Click Automotive pledged $100,000 in scholarships for the Automotive Technician program; Hoag Hospital donated $7,500 to be the title event sponsor at the upcoming Foundation gala. 

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore's report included mention of:a wind quintet composed by Professor Daniel Luzko was choreographed for an international competition in Athens, Greece and received a gold medal; Mark Cheung was elected chairman of the Foundation for 2008-09; student Carrie R. Miller received an award for her psychology research paper from the Psi Beta National Honor Society in Psychology; English professor Lisa Alvarez and dance instructor Angelika Nemeth were included in the "Best of OC" issue of Orange Coast magazine; and the classified senate honored President Roquemore with an appreciation award.

• ATEP report from President Roquemore included mention of: summer enrollment is at almost 600 students; meetings with CSU Fullerton; course planning for Spring 2009; fall schedule was distributed to hundreds of thousands of homes inside SC and IVC schedules; and faculty orientation is planned for August.

APPROVED . . .

• all consent calendar items, academic personnel actions and classified personnel actions, except for item 5.13 which was pulled from the agenda. If you wish to know specifics, please contact the Office of the President or Deputy Chancellor. 

• institutional memberships for 2008-09.

• changing the August board meeting date to Tuesday, August 26, 2008.

• 2008-09 basic aid project priority list (click here to view).

• six firms to form a pool from which to draw construction manager services for periods up to five years.

• accepting Camelot Entertainment Group's proposal to mutually terminate the exclusive right to negotiate agreement to develop ATEP.  [Note: other master development partners will be sought to continue with the plans for ATEP.]

• retainer agreement with Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo for specialized legal services pertaining to labor relations, labor negotiations, and other community college legal matters.

• resolution designating public locations of public records, as required by a recent Brown Act amendment.

• John Ozurovich, SC Director of Facilities, and John Edwards, IVC Director of Facilities, gave reports on the status facilities maintenance and projects.  Click here to view their Powerpoint presentation.
