Irvine Valley College

The Board approved the IVC Associated Student Government budget of $531,413 for 2010-11. 

Saddleback College

The Board approved the SC Associated Student Government budget of $1,056,315 for 2010-11.

• adoption of the 2010-11 final budget for $486,492,208.  Click here for the presentation slides of District Director of Fiscal Services Beth Mueller and Vice Chancellor David Bugay. 

• additional courses, presenters and compensation for Fall 2010 community education programs at IVC and SC.

• accepting a $23,501 industry grant award to ATEP from the Haas Factory Outlet, Anaheim, and Haas Automation, Inc.

• sub-grantee agreement with Coast Community College District for SC to provide fashion design and merchandising expertise to support a Career Technical Education Initiative.

• revised District Cooperative Work Experience Education Plan

• institutional membership in the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.

• five year construction plan for submission to the state chancellor's office reflecting the order of priority and schedule of funds as identified in the 2006 Educational and Facilities Master Plan.

• agreement with Belaire-West Landscape, Inc. in the amount of $1.2 million for the IVC landscaping project.

• agreement with CB Richard Ellis, Inc. for real estate brokerage services for the ATEP project.

• A presentation was made by representatives of 2-1-1 Orange County. The organization offers a comprehensive information and referral system linking residents to community health and human services and support. Callers seeking assistance can dial 211 (toll-free) 24 hours-a-day and be connected to trained, multilingual specialists. 2-1-1 Orange County also serves as a public information system during local emergencies such as earthquake, fire or other disasters.

• A public hearing was conducted to provide an opportunity for comment on the district's proposal to the SOCCCD Police Officer's Association.

• Board President Donald P. Wagner thanked Acting Chancellor Bullock and Vice Chancellor Bugay for a great Chancellor's Opening Session and wished all good luck in the coming semester. Clerk of the Board Marcia Milchiker discussed the excellent Opening Session and her participation in flex week activities. Trustee Thomas A. Fuentes related a recent visit to the Reagan Ranch and recalled the special day that our district named the Ronald Reagan Board of Trustees Room in his honor. Trustee William O. Jay called attention to the smooth opening of all three campuses for fall semester. Trustee David B. Lang enjoyed participating in the Chancellor's Opening Session and acknowledged Acting Chancellor Bullock and Vice Chancellors Bugay and Bramucci. He toured ATEP recently and thanked ATEP staff. Trustee John S. Williams toured ATEP and is looking forward to taking tours of the IVC and SC campuses this semester. Student Trustee Eve Shieh attended a student trustee workshop and met student trustees throughout the state.

• The meeting was adjourned in memory of Professor Leslie Cromwell.

• SC President Tod Burnett's written report included mention of: success of fall in-service week; management team retreat; progress on the James B. Utt Memorial Library; auditions for Bat Boy: The Musical and Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs; ASG participation in student leadership conference at CSU Fullerton; high volume of financial aid applications; new way of disbursing financial aid to students with "The Saddleback Card" which allows receipt of disbursement without the risk of lost or stolen checks or mail delays; and Transfer Center open house and outreach efforts. 

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: memorandum of understanding with the University of Redlands to expand transfer opportunities to students and staff; new officers of the IVC Foundation with Julie Davis elected as chairman for 2010-11; student LaQuann Moore honored with a $2,000 scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association; Foundation Golf Tournament on October 6; 9/11 ceremony on September 10 at noon; and the naming of the geological map of the Little Lake Quadrangle the "Dr. Glenn R. Roquemore Honorary Map" for his public service in educating young geologists.  

• ATEP Provost Randy Peebles' written report included mention of: City of Tustin approval for Concept 3A Plan for campus expansion up to 305,000 square feet on up to 28 acres; tours of San Diego Community College Distinct School of Continuing Education and College of the Canyons University Center; meeting with a representative of the University of Southern Nevada and several European universities interested in partnering to develop technician training in high demand areas; and a 100% pass rate for the students in the Academic Foundations Summer Institute and their graduation event.

The Board meeting will be available for viewing online later in the week. Television broadcast is scheduled for 7pm on both Friday, September 3 and Saturday, September 4, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33.  SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, September 5 at 7pm.
