• Trustee Donald P. Wagner expressed his thanks to Assemblywoman Mimi Walters and David Walters for opening their home to an SOCCCD event. It was an outstanding meeting and a good exchange of ideas with K-12 leaders. He is optimistic about contract negotiations with the Faculty Association.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes extended his appreciation to the Walters' and thanked Chancellor Raghu Mathur and Public Affairs Director Tracy Daly for the innovative and effective outreach to K-12 districts. He thanked staffs of IVC and ATEP for their hospitality during tours of new construction.

• Trustee William O. Jay thanked outgoing Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly for all she has contributed and wished her the best of luck in the future.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker echoed the comments of fellow Trustees in thanking Student Trustee Kelly and recognized her supportive parents. She and Trustee Kelly were students in the same Spanish class. She congratulated all the outstanding classified staff who were honored at the meeting. She attended the SC student production of Taming of the Shrew and is participating in many scholarship committees.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg wished Elizabeth Kelly well in all that the future holds. She congratulated SC Football Coach Mark McElroy, SC Coach Don Butcher, and the IVC volleyball team. She pointed out a 4/22/07 OC Register article entitled “Finding Joy on the Job” which highlighted IVC volleyball coach Tom Pestolesi.

• Trustee John S. Williams attended an excellent conference of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) with Chancellor Mathur. There has been much coverage of community college students in the media lately, including an outstanding article in USA Today. He recognized Elizabeth Kelly who completed her high school equivalency at 15 years of age, and is now earning two associate degrees at 18.

• Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly thanked everyone for their support this year including fellow Trustees, Chancellor Mathur, IVC faculty and her parents. She recently met with State Senator Tom Harman and Assemblyman Chuck Devore in Sacramento when she attended an event honoring the 2007 Phi Theta Kappa All-California First Academic Team.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur discussed the many themes of the AACC conference which included: globalization and education to ensure a competitive edge, community colleges offering baccalaureate degrees, distance education outcomes, and management training. All the presentations will be available online. He noted that it has been a pleasure working with Student Trustee Kelly. He is looking forward to contract negotiations in which everyone is working together with a positive tone.

• SC President Richard McCullough's written report included mention of: $5,000 donation by the Mission Viejo City Council to the Veterans Memorial; Transfer Center sponsored two college fairs in April; Child Development Center activities; ASG hosted Awareness Week; Multicultural Month activities; Dean Tony Lipold was elected the Management Council Chair of the California CC Athletic Assn.; Men's Basketball Team played in the State Tournament; new endowment scholarships; and updates from the College Divisions.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: IVC debaters won the National Parliamentary Debate Association national championship tournament, the sixth year in a row that the team has won the community college division top honors; Mayor Beth Krom was featured on the IVC Today television program; new endowment contributions; completion of a five year project of imaging all student records; and Rodheim Marketing Group will be spearheading a naming rights campaign for the new Performing Arts Center.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: progress of partnership negotiation meetings, new staff coming on board, hosting a campus tour for the Board of Trustees, and a class schedule to be inserted into the Colleges' fall schedules.

ACTION, THE BOARD APPROVED . . .

• all consent calendar items, academic personnel actions, and classified personnel actions, except for tabling Item 4.8 to a future meeting. If you wish to know specifics, please contact the Office of the President or Deputy Chancellor.

• accepting additional funds to augment enrollment growth of the SC associate degree nursing programs for 10+ students over a two-year period.

• renewal of a contract for the 2007-08 for printing and mailing of class schedules to Trend Offset Printing, $194,213.20 for SC and $130,000 for IVC.

• awarding the contract for bookstore operations at SC and IVC to Follett Higher Education Group from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2012.

• a three year contract for IVC food and vending machine services with S&B Foods.

• accepting $800,000 from the State Chancellor's Office for the Transfer Counselor Website and Transfer Leadership grant.

• amending agreements to temporarily adjust the required commission payments due to the impact of the closure of the SC BGS building with The Drip Coffee (coffee cart services), MAP Services, Inc. (food vending machine services), and S&B Foods (cafeteria services).

• SC Study Abroad Program to Guanajuato, Mexico for summer 2007.

• an exclusive right to negotiate agreement (ERNA) with Camelot Entertainment for master development of the ATEP property which includes milestone deadlines for major tasks.

• the District's initial proposal for negotiations with the SOCCCD Faculty Association and set a public hearing on the proposal at the May Board meeting.

• accepting the Police Officer's Association proposal for review and study.

The Board conducted a public hearing to provide an opportunity to comment on the SOCCCD Faculty Association's proposal.

Howard Adams, Curriculum Chair at Saddleback College, and Dr. Katherine Schmeidler, Curriculum Chair at Irvine Valley College, made presentations on the curriculum development process and procedures.  They were introduced by Academic Senate Presidents Bob Cosgrove and Wendy Gabriella.

             Development, as the Part-time Professor of the Year.

             IVC: Richard Zucker, Mathematics, Sciences and Engineering, as the Full-time Professor of

             the Year; Rich Schank, Fine Arts, as the Part-time Professor of the Year; and Donna

                Chase as the Emeritus Professor of the Year.
