• Vice President Donald P. Wagner thanked Chancellor Mathur and the administration for the recent opportunities to meet with national educational leaders Dr. George Boggs, CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges, and Dr. David Long, the new State Secretary of Education. He wished everyone a good semester.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker mentioned that the semester is off to a good start with the College Presidents' Opening Sessions and the Chancellor's Opening Session. She thanked the Board for adjourning the meeting last month in honor of her mother-in-law.

• Trustee William O. Jay shared observations about the six million students who are enrolled in community colleges throughout the nation, and recognized that many California students successfully transfer to CSU and UC institutions.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg participated in many events at the Colleges as well as the receptions for Dr. George Boggs and Dr. David Long,

• Trustee John S. Williams welcomed students to fall semester, in particular the 400 new students to the Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP) in Tustin.

• Student Trustee Matthew Reynard discussed attending the student trustee conference and taking detailed tours of the new IVC Performing Arts Center and ATEP.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur thanked all the trustees who, even with their busy schedules, have been attending the Colleges' and District events. He welcomed back faculty and staff for the new academic year and welcomed the new IVC vice president of instruction, Dr. Craig Justice. It was a pleasure to honor the many faculty members at the Chancellor's Opening Session who received pins in recognition for their many years of service. He congratulated the ATEP staff on all their hard work to get the campus open: Dr. Robert Kopecky, Dr. Cathie Peterson, Tere Fluegeman, Matt Suarez, Bev Johnson and Michael Martinez. He also thanked Tracy Daly and Brandye D'Lena for their contributions to the launch of the newest campus.

• SC President Richard McCullough's written report included mention of: environmental studies department chair, Morgan Barrows , earned her Ph.D. from UC Irvine; a promotional DVD was produced to highlight certificates in marine science technology; 79 new students started in the nursing program this semester; the athletic department is launching a new web site to recruit students; Dr. Amira Rezec is the 2007 winder of the National Psi Beta/Verginia Staudt Sexton Faculty Advisor “Rising Star” award.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: Cecilia Goodman was elected chairman of the Foundation board; a successful media open house for the new Performing Arts Center; Dr. Stephen Rochford was appointed as state chair of the College Band Directors National Association; 400 children participated in IVC Kids Kollege; all 21 of the UCLA Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) applicants were admitted, making IVC one of only eight TAP participants to achieve 100%.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky's written report included mention of: staff moving into the campus; continuing negotiations with Camelot Entertainment, California State University-Fullerton, Chapman University and Young Americans; media tour of the new campus; faculty orientation luncheon; and spring 2008 planning.

• $391,066,619 final District budget for 2007-08 of which includes the state cost of living adjustment (COLA) of 4.53% and a reserve of 6.5% for economic uncertainties.

• increase to the academic administrators and classified management salary schedules equal to the state funded COLA for fiscal years 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10.

• $134,020 in a contract with Agilysys, Inc. for IBM hardware to support district-wide e-mail and calendaring system replacement.

• a progress report about ATEP by Provost Robert Kopecky and Dean Cathie Peterson.

• draft accreditation progress reports for SC and IVC, which are due for submission to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in October, 2007.

• a progress report on safety and security measures at SC, IVC and ATEP in addition to vendor proposals for digital video management systems and security cameras.

The Board meeting will be broadcast on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1 at 7pm, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33.
