REPORTS
AND COMMENTS
- Board
President David B. Lang visited Moscow
during his recent vacation. He mentioned that it heightened
his appreciation for the freedoms and privileges in
this country. He extended greetings to students, faculty
and staff as we begin the new academic year.
- Vice
President Nancy M. Padberg attended
many community and campus events over the past month.
- Clerk
of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes extended
an Orange County welcome to U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Antonin Scalia whom he met at event hosted by his alma
mater, Chapman University.
- Trustee
Marcia Milchiker welcomed everyone
to the new academic year and thanked Charter 100 and
the AAUW Chapters of San Clemente and Mission Viejo
for their generous scholarships to SC and IVC students.
- Trustee
Donald P. Wagner extended his appreciation
to Professor Karla Westphal whom he
met with recently, and thanked the Chancellor
Mathur, President McCullough and Director
John Ozurovich for a tour of the SC Business
and General Studies (BGS) Building.
- Trustee
John S. Williams participated in many
College and community events this month. He encouraged
everyone to attend events in the SC McKinney Theatre
which provides a quality entertainment venue.
- Chancellor
Raghu P. Mathur expressed his appreciation
to Academic Senate Presidents Claire Cesareo-Silva
(SC) and Wendy Gabriella
(IVC) for jointly seeking, with the District, technical
assistance from the CCLC and State Academic Senate to
clarify roles and responsibilities of different shared
governance groups. He announced that District
IT received
the California Community College 's Technology
Focus Award for our Smart
Schedule. The final budget for the
new SC Health Sciences Building came in $900,000 less
than the allocation for the project. SC and IVC students
will soon be selecting a new Student Trustee.
- SC
President Richard McCullough 's written
report included mention of: 24 page The Lariat
fall orientation issue; re-accreditation of the Child
Development Center; selection of EOPS student Jasmine
DeCosta to participate in UC Berkeley's Cal Experience
for potential transfer students; and launch of a quarterly
newsletter from the HSHSEI Division.
- IVC
President Glenn Roquemore 's written
report included mention of: acquisition of new fitness
equipment for students with disabilities; airing “IVC
Today” television program; competitive participation
of Assistant Volleyball Coach and 2004 Olympic Gold
medallist Misty May-Treanor in the Huntington Beach
Open; and the addition of 325+ new computers and flat-screen
monitors in the Library and labs across campus.
- ATEP
Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written
report included mention of: property improvements, program
and course development progress, and partnership proposals
received from United Veteran Organization of Orange
County, Gear Monkey, Pacific Coast High School, and
California State University, Fullerton.

AND INFORMATION REPORTS
- The
Board received written status reports on basic aid,
current construction projects, monthly and quarterly
financial status, quarterly investment, mold abatement
and air quality improvement at SC, fire evacuation plan
in the SC Health Sciences Building, comparison of IVC
and SC summer 2005 enrollment statistics, SC Health
Sciences Building lighting, and relocation of SC BGS
occupants and one-phase remodel. Click for the June

- ATEP
facility use requests included USC Film School, Hino
Motors Sales USA, Greystone Television for a History
Channel episode, Konkal Photography for Motor Trend
Magazine, G-Force Production, TimeCode Entertainment
for a music video, and Three and Two Films.
PRESENTATIONS
- LPA
Architects gave a presentation on the preliminary design
of IVC's Business and Technology Center and Maintenance
and Operations Facility.
- SC
and IVC Police Chiefs Harry Parmer and Owen Kreza presented
a report on the installation of video surveillance cameras
at both campuses.
CORRESPONDENCE
- Correspondence
in the Board agenda packet included letters and notes
extending appreciation, commendation and compliments
to the following, from SC: President McCullough;
Dean Kathleen Winston
and instructors Susan White-Alcover,
Maureen Smith and Kristin
Hayes; from the District: Chancellor
Mathur.
TELEVISED
BOARD MEETING
- The
meeting will be broadcast on Friday, September 2 and
Saturday, September 3, at 7pm, on Saddleback College
Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33. SC
TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, September
4 at 7pm.
