Sworn in by Richard O. Frazee, OC Superior Court Judge (retired), for new four year terms through 2010 were incumbent trustees, from left: Marcia Milchiker, Nancy M. Padberg, and Donald P. Wagner.  All three were relected without opposition.

The Board elected the following slate of officers for 2007. 

• David B. Lang, President
• Donald P. Wagner, Vice President
• Thomas A. Fuentes, Clerk

Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur congratulated President Lang and commended him for his leadership over the past year.

• President David B. Lang expressed his sincere gratitude to fellow trustees for re-electing him president and holiday greetings to all.

• Vice President Donald P. Wagner urged everyone to attend the IVC Adopt-A-Family event as a way to kick off the holiday season.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes wished all a happy holiday season.

• Trustee William O. Jay congratulated the three Trustees who were sworn in and extended his wishes for happy holidays to all.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker discussed the excellent professors at the colleges and encouraged the public to view their websites. She attended many events this month and wished all a great holiday.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg attended many events this month. She complimented President McCullough and everyone who has worked on the beautiful SC Learning Village which will be ready for students next month. She wished everyone a happy holiday.

• Trustee John S. Williams thanked Bill Hewitt for the piece he wrote in the Orange County Register entitled “Don't Judge Community Colleges by Transfer Rates Alone”. He mentioned that his thoughts and prayers are with the families of the SC and IVC students who have died recently.

• Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly attended many events this month. She recognized outgoing ASIVC President Rockwell Bower and wished students good luck on their finals.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur expressed his appreciation to past and incoming Board officers. Upon the suggestion of Professor Ken Woodward , he is reading Revolutionary Wealth by Alvin and Heidi Toffler. The authors give an example that if businesses in U.S. are moving at speed of 100 miles per hour, then labor unions are moving at 30mph, schools at 10 mph, and Congress at 3mph. It is interesting to reflect on the need for synchronization. He thanked everyone for their service on behalf of students and wished all happy holidays.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: the Football Team finished its season with a National Bowl title and an impressive 11-1 record; Accreditation Progress Report Visitation Team came to campus November 30; Fine Arts performances; and updates from Student Services, SC Foundation, and the Divisions of Liberal Arts & Learning Resources and Health Sciences, Human Services and Emeritus Institute.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: launch of a paperless system in the Admissions and Records Office; groundbreaking ceremony for the new Business Sciences and Technology Innovation Center; and Dr. Calvin Nelson was named as the interim Vice President of Instruction.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: construction progress on the first campus buildings and receipt of 13 proposals in response to the request for proposals for partnerships.

• Addressing the Board were: Bob Cosgrove , SC Academic Senate; Wendy Gabriella , IVC Academic Senate; Carol Spencer, CSEA; Matt Suarez , SC Classified Senate; Beep Colclough, IVC Classified Senate; and Rockwell Bower , Associated Students of IVC.

ANNUAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

• In addition to election of officers, the Board made the following appointments: Chancellor Mathur as secretary of the Board and Deputy Chancellor Poertner as assistant secretary; Trustee Milchiker as representative to the nominating committee to the Committee on School District Organization, and Trustee Padberg as alternate representative; Trustee Milchiker as the political action representative to the Orange County School Boards Association; Trustee Jay as the liaison to Orange County Community College Trustees Association; Trustee Fuentes as the representative to the Orange County Legislative Task Force and Trustee Wagner as the alternate representative; and Trustee Padberg as representative to the Orange County Transportation Authority Stakeholders Working Group for South Orange County Major Investment Study.

• The Board approved the meeting dates and times for 2007, a revised agenda format and a list of discussion topics.
