REPORTS
AND COMMENTS
- Board
President David B. Lang thanked
the Board for their vote of confidence in re-electing
him President. He expressed that the Board has much
to take pride in. The Colleges have the best faculty
in the state, and during the past year the District
has established goals and begun updating the facilities
and master plan. A socioeconomic impact report has documented
that public funding in our Colleges has a return on
investment to the regional economy that any CEO would
be proud of. He mentioned that there is more work to
be done to address recommendations by accreditation
teams and the balancing of current programs needs with
long term infrastructure needs.
- Vice
President Nancy M. Padberg attended
many holiday events and athletic banquets this month.
She expressed her support for classified staff. She
attended the California Community College League of
California convention in San Francisco. Among
the many distinguished alumni receiving awards was IVC
graduate Amali Tower. Ms. Tower was honored because
of her work as co-founder of Bridge 2 Peace.
- Clerk
of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes announced
that former IVC Foundation Chair Tom Wall
has established a $20,000 scholarship endowment at IVC.
The Foundation will accept donations to this endowment
to benefit future generations of IVC students. He saluted
Mr. Wall who is battling terminal cancer.
- Trustee
William O. Jay wished
everyone happy holidays and recognized the devotion
of the classified staff.
- Trustee
Marcia Milchiker acknowledged
Tom Wall as a great person and thanked
him for the funding that he has helped to raise over
the years. She expressed her hopes for a conclusion
to contract matters and wished everyone a happy holiday
season.
- Trustee
Donald P. Wagner wished
everyone happy holidays.
- Trustee
John S. Williams attended
the Education and Law Conference sponsored by CSU San
Diego and San Diego Community College District. He wished
everyone a happy and safe holiday season.
- Student
Trustee Paul Ho attended
an IVC Wind Symphony concert and is looking forward
to when they can perform in the new Performing Arts
Center.
- Chancellor
Raghu P. Mathur congratulated
the new vice chancellors. He complimented the faculty,
administrators and staff of both Colleges for the excellent
work that is going on in curriculum development, program
review and student learning outcomes. He thanked Katie
Slavin, District Director of Business Services, who
is retiring after more than 17 years of service to the
District.
- SC
President Richard McCullough 's written
report included mention of: plans for a Veterans Memorial
to be constructed by Veterans Day 2006; ASG Thanksgiving
turkey drive; Outreach Specialist Leslie Humphrey
reporting on outreach and retention efforts;
Academic Senate forming a standing committee on transfer;
fall athletic accomplishments; Nursing Career Fair;
and Fine Arts performances.
- IVC
President Glenn Roquemore 's written
report included mention of: applications for scholarships
are now available to high school students on teh college
web page; regional recognition for water-saving efforts;
PTK chapter hosted nationally organized Rock the Vote
Day on November 7 to promote elections; and fall athletic
accomplishments.
- ATEP
Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written
report included mention of: holding the first meeting
of the ATEP Foundation, meetings with potential partners,
and continued discussions with Hartford Insurance to
identify potential construction companies for completion
of ATEP buildings.
- Addressing
the Board were a number of staff and faculty and: Wendy
Gabriella, IVC Academic Senate; Lewis
Long, Faculty Association; Connie Zucker,
CSEA; Susan Sweet, IVC Classified Senate;
Mark Sierakowski, SC Classified Senate;
Neena Nawabi, Associated Students of
IVC; and Taylor Ames, SC Associated
Student Government.

ANNUAL
ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING
- In addition to election of officers, the Board made
the following appointments: Chancellor Mathur as secretary
of the Board and Deputy Chancellor Poertner as assistant
secretary; Trustee Milchiker as representative to the
nominating committee to the Committee on School District
Organization, and Trustee Williams as alternate representative;
Trustee Milchiker as the political action representative
to the Orange County School Boards Association; Trustee
Fuentes as the representative to the Orange County Legislative
Task Force and Trustee Wagner as the alternate representative;
and Trustee Jay as treasurer to the SOCCCD Facilities
Corporation.

IVC Performing Arts Center including civil engineering services,
inspector of record, labor compliance, demolition and grading,
site utilities, paving, landscaping and irrigation, concrete,
structural steel, doors, drywall, ceramic tile, carpet and
floor coverings, theater and stage equipment, seating, elevators,
plumbing, painting, etc.
- master
agreement between the District and the Advanced Technology
and Education Park (ATEP) Foundation and the bylaws of the
Foundation.

setting
January 19, 2006 as the election date for classified employees
to vote on whether to create a merit system, authorizing
Administration to meet the District's obligations under
Ed. Code 88051, and creating a tabulation committee consisting
of Connie Zucker, CSEA President; Laura Abrams, Payroll
Manager; and Trustee William Jay.
- full-time
faculty hiring policy, mutually agreed upon by Administration
and Academic Senates.
- acceptance
of the District's 2004-05 annual audit report.
- award
to Mepco Services, Inc. for $1,826,000 for construction of
the IVC Maintenance and Police Facility, Phase 1.
- award
of $1,848,575 to furnish and install modular buildings for
temporary classrooms at SC.

- Correspondence in the

appreciation, commendation and compliments to the following,

TELEVISED
BOARD MEETING
- The Board meeting will
be broadcast on Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December
17, at 7pm on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine
Valley College Channel 33. SC TV39 has an additional
broadcast on Sunday, December 18 at 7pm.
