SPECIAL RECOGNITION Trustee Marcia Milchiker received a special recognition presented by Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur in honor of her 20 year anniversary on the Board of Trustees. Board President David B. Lang (right) congratulated Trustee Milchiker who received a standing ovation by all attending the meeting.
		She said, “I'm so proud to serve and promote our colleges to the community and the state. They have a wonderful reputation throughout the state and the nation.”

REPORTS AND COMMENTS

• Board President David B. Lang thanked Chancellor Mathur and the fiscal services staff for the valuable and educational budget workshop, held earlier in the day.

• Vice President Nancy M. Padberg attended the California Community College League of California (CCLC) Legislative Conference in Sacramento during which participants received an update on the state budget. She also attended a Chapman University economic forecast event.

• Trustee William O. Jay congratulated Deputy Chancellor Gary Poertner and the fiscal services team from the District and both Colleges on the outstanding budget workshop.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker attended the CCLC Legislative Conference in Sacramento and many events at both Colleges including the SC nurse pinning ceremony and the IVC Astounding Inventions. She recalled that many years ago Coretta Scott King, who died today, spoke at SC.

• Trustee John S. Williams attended the Community College Futures Assembly hosted by the University of Florida . There were excellent presentations and opportunities to meet with other community college districts which are partnering with public and private sector organizations, combining outside investment in return for workforce training.

• Student Trustee Paul Ho acknowledged that this meeting marked the end of his first semester as student trustee. He was humbled by the experience and will try to improve representation of SC.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur also attended the Futures Assembly. He gathered excellent information on best practices and partnerships that will directly assist ATEP projects and College distance education programs. Dr. Kjell Christophersen presented the findings of a recently completed socioeconomic impact study at the Chancellor's Opening Session. The report, which documents a dramatic and positive economic affect that the Colleges have on the region, will soon be available in print and online. He recently attended a briefing by the Campaign for College Opportunity which outlined the need for more funding and public policy development in order to meet the need for more Californians to attend college in future years.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event; launch of online scholarship applications; ASG raised $8,000 for charities last fall; and updates from the Divisions of Business Sciences, Vocational Education and Economic Development; Health Sciences, Human Services and Emeritus Institute; Fine Arts; and Liberal Arts and Learning Resources.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: Pepsi vendor donates $25,000 to IVC; accomplishments of music faculty members Dr. Daniel Luzko and Keatly Haldeman; an anonymous $50,000 donation to the Wind Symphony; and completion of a green energy retrofit of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and power generating equipment, as well as the installation of photovoltaic panels in the Hart Gymnasium roof.

• Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP) Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: site preparation for the initial one acre campus; hiring of Tere Fluegeman as Director of Public Information and Marketing; marketing and public relations efforts; assistance to the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) program which will eventually be housed at ATEP; and meetings with potential partners.

• Addressing the Board were a number of faculty, staff, students, and Mary Williams, CSEA; Mark Sierakowski , SC Classified Senate; Cloyce Kelly , POA; and Taylor Ames , SC Associated Student Government.

SPECIAL MEETINGS AND PRESENTATIONS

• A workshop was held prior to the Board meeting to review the tentative budget for 2006-07 and the impact on both Colleges.

• Consultants gkkworks and Maas Companies presented a status report of the Educational and Facilities Master Plan for SC, IVC and ATEP campuses. The report is on schedule for completion by March 1.

CORRESPONDENCE

• Correspondence in the Board agenda packet included letters and notes extending appreciation, commendation and compliments to the following, from SC: Art Department faculty, and from IVC: Spanish instructor Jeanne Egasse.

TELEVISED BOARD MEETING

• The Board meeting will be broadcast on Friday, February 3 and Saturday, February 4, at 7pm, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33. SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, February 5 at 7pm.
