REPORTS AND COMMENTS

• Trustee John S. Williams attended the awarding of the 2005 Clark Prize for water conservation presented by Joan Irvine Smith. A Yale professor won for research on the drought in Israel.  He attended the "fantastic" Annie Get Your Gun at the newly remodeled McKinney Theatre at Saddleback College with plans to attend Honkey Tonk Laundry when it opens.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur complimented Saddleback and Irvine Valley Colleges Academic Senates on developing strategies and plans to implement accreditation recommendations in a number of areas, particularly in the area of student learning outcomes.  He also commended Saddleback College for being voted one of the top four colleges and universities in Orange County by Orange County Register readers in its "Best of Orange County" section to be published this fall.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: Saddleback College Foundation received $43,000 from the George Hoag Family to purchase a human simulator for the Health Sciences program and a $50,000 pledge from the Saddleback Memorial Center towards the Health Sciences “Teaching Tomorrow's Life Savers” campaign; 23 university representatives attending the Summer College Fair; plans are finalized for the New Student Welcome Day on Friday, August 19; and the Saddleback Civic Light Opera and Midsummer Cabaret Series are wrapping up the 2005 season with performances of “Babes in Arms” and appearances by Brian Lane Green and Franc D'Ambrosio.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: two students,

  Cynthia Barnes and Phong Thien, received $1,000 scholarships from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation; Athletics named its male and female athletes of the year and coaches of the year for the 2004-05 school year; over 7,500 postcards were mailed to high school seniors in 20 zip codes to encourage new student enrollment and included a Lasers key chain memento as a tracking mechanism; and 15 students for the Irvine Valley Masterworks Chorale performed at Carnegie Hall on May 31 as part of the New York City Chamber Orchestra and Festival Chorus.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: demolition of the credit union/library, bowling center and theater is complete; water runoff issues with Rancho Santiago Community College District have been resolved; Jennie McCue, Director of Public Information and Marketing for ATEP, started work June 27, 2005; and partnership opportunities with CSUF and Tustin Schools are being explored.

• GKK Architects presented the Board with plans for the library renovation and the feasiblilty of a new science building for Saddleback College.

CORRESPONDENCE

• Correspondence in the Board agenda packet included letters and notes extending appreciation and compliments to the following, from SC: Emeritus Program; from IVC: Diana Walker, Chi Tau Epsilon Chapter of American Criminal Justice Association; from District, Andrea Gallagher.

CLOSED SESSION

• The Board voted 5-0 to deny a request by a Saddleback College faculty instructor to be department chair and teach overload while on workload banking leave.
