AND COMMENTS
- President Donald P. Wagner,
welcomed Dr. Richard McCullough to his first meeting as President
of Saddleback College.
- Vice
President Nancy Padberg expressed appreciation to Assembly
Member Patricia Bates who is working on behalf of community
colleges in Sacramento
, in particular in advocating
against the proposal to locate the community college system
under the K-12 State Board of Education.
- Trustee Fuentes thanked staff
for ensuring that Board interviews on Leisure World TV6 will
now be broadcast on IVC Channel 33 and Saddleback College
Channel 39.
- Trustee William O. Jay expressed
that he would like to see more informal (“no ties”) attire
worn at June, July and August Board meetings.
- Trustee Marcia Milchiker mentioned
that she attended the outstanding performances of the Saddleback
College Civic Light Opera this summer.
- Trustee
David Lang expressed criticism of a proposal at the state
level to fold community colleges into the K-12 system. He
expressed concern at the state's inability to respond to local
concerns and pass a budget. He thanked faculty for making
such a difference in students' lives, and mentioned that the
Board receives correspondence every month complimenting faculty.
- Chancellor
Raghu Mathur stated that a number of building repairs at Saddleback
College
are needed. Hoping to
bring a plan of action to the board next month, staff is reviewing
plans, developing schedules and evaluating impacts to the
budget.
- Irvine Valley College President
Glenn Roquemore expressed gratitude to the Board for their
approval of funding for computer technology needs and scheduled
maintenance. In his written report to the Board, he mentioned
that Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona congratulated personally
the two Administrative of Justice students who were the first
recipients of the Michael S. Carona Scholarship; SBC Communications
presented a gift of $6,000 to kick off the capital campaign
for the Performing Arts Center; and IVC's Testing Center is
now authorized to test and certify the International Computer
Driver License (ICDL).
- Saddleback
College
President McCullough
introduced the new Vice President of Instruction, Dr. Rajen
Vurdien. He also thanked the Board for their investment in
technology and scheduled maintenance. In his written report
to the Board, he mentioned: Athletic Department raised over
$15,000 at the annual golf tournament; excellent tickets sales
and reviews for the Civic Light Opera performances; 26 students
will participate in the Paramedic Graduation on July 29; and
a Dean and Assistant Dean have been asked to serve on the
Associate Degree Nursing State Chancellor's Curriculum Model
Project.

Long, Faculty Association; and Mary Williams, CSEA.

- retaining a firm to provide
architectural services for repair of the north wing floor
in the Saddleback College Technology and Applied Science building.
- accepting a donation from
Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian of $80,450 for 2005 and
2006 to supplement salaries of nursing faculty.
- $3,548,415 in 2004-05 for
the computer technology needs in the classroom and student
support areas at the Colleges and the District.
- use of Basic Aid funds in
the amount of $1,000,000 for the implementation of a District
sponsored scheduled maintenance program in 2004-05 to replace
diminished state funding.
- use of Basic Aid funds in
the amount of $4,406,820 (less equalization aid revenue that
may be in the state budget) for the COP's debt payment and
retiree benefits fund transfer during the 2004-05 budget year.
- fourth year for the California
Concert Artists to serve as IVC Professional Artists In-Residence.

- agreement
with Vihlene & Associates, Inc. to assist the District
in the rental of vacant buildings, helicopter hanger and large
tarmac on the ATEP property in Tustin
