Bill Hewitt, Director of Supportive Services at IVC, was recognized by the Board of Trustees as the recipient of the 2005 Achievement of Excellence Award from the American Association of Community Colleges.

Dr. Sholeh Alizadeh , ReEntry/Women's Center Services Specialist, was recognized by the Board of Trustees for her work coordinating the annual SC Women's Conference.

The District received FIRST PLACE FOR BEST VIDEO for Vision:Education “Making the World a Better Place ” . The team responsible for the video was: Vince Cooper from IVC, PJ Schramel from SC and Tracy Daly from the District.

Saddleback College received SECOND PLACE FOR BEST BROCHURE for a fine arts brochure created by Diane Smith.

Saddleback College received the THIRD PLACE “WILD CARD AWARD” for their electronic Publicity Request Form. PJ Schramel and Jerry Hannula were on hand to accept congratulations to the SC Communications Task Force Team which included: Rob Hartman, Mark Schiffelbein, Terry Wedel, Dawn Kamber, Joyce Hanna, Ted Martin and student Heather Pierce.

The District received SECOND PLACE FOR BEST ANNUAL REPORT. On hand to accept congratulations were: Brenda Constantino from IVC, Erin Marshall from the District, and Tracy Daly from the District. The team effort also included Elaine Rubenstein from IVC.

REPORTS AND COMMENTS

• Board President David B. Lang announced that Trustee Thomas Fuentes recently received an honorary Doctor of Business Admin istration from Pacific States University of Los Angeles. He congratulated Trustee Marcia Milchiker and her husband Ben Milchiker on their being named the Jewish Family Service Family of the Year.

• Vice President Nancy M. Padberg attended the SC golf tournament banquet and congratulated the organizers. She thanked the negotiating teams for their work on the police officers contract. The Board recently held a workshop on the Advanced Technology and Education Park (ATEP) and there were many good ideas discussed for this new campus which will include the involvement of both Colleges, and other institutions of higher education.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes congratulated all the graduating high school seniors in the District (prospective students for our Colleges) and their parents. His son TJ is graduating this week from El Toro High School .

• Trustee William O. Jay mentioned the ATEP workshop and that he is an advocate of building it out as quickly as possible, which will take funding. Large numbers of students taking general education courses will help ATEP build its FTES level to qualify for funding under “center status.”

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker recognized the work of SC EOPS Specialist/Facilitator Maria Paniagua, and the recent newspaper articles on SC Dean Ken Patton and Student Trustee Brittany Poulton and her mother. She attended the KSBR birthday bash, and the Al Brightbill farewell concert.

• Trustee Donald P. Wagner spoke recently to students at Capistrano District Christian School about our Colleges. He extended his congratulations to IVC President Glenn Roquemore and his wife Kiana on the birth of their son Tyler.

• Trustee John S. Williams enjoyed participating in the sold out golf tournament to benefit SC athletics with 160 golfers. He thanked the Tijeras Creek Golf Club and the participants in the silent auction. The District will be debt free in three years, quite an accomplishment following the financial difficulties of the mid 1990s.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur congratulated those who received Board recognition at the meeting, and pointed out that the Colleges and District have outstanding faculty, staff, managers, and administrators. Thirty-three new faculty members have been recently hired (24 at SC and 9 at IVC), 42 classified staff, and 4 administrators/classified managers. He introduced Jennifer McCue as the new Director of Public Information and Marketing for ATEP (and an alumnus of IVC). He thanked the negotiating teams on the police officers contract: Deputy Chancellor Gary Poertner, Teddi Lorch, Cloyce Kelly, Dan Lincoln, and Mike Lybarger.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: student learning outcomes templates completed; Child Development Center pre-K graduation; 853 students completed classroom observations in the Child Development Center, an increase of 518 students over FY03-04; an increase of six percent in visits to the Health Center; SC students received awards at the OCC AIA design competition; SC Film Festival will be a part of the Newport Beach Film Festival; and student Gerrie Adams front page photo and story in the OC Register.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: 2005 commencement ceremony; Foundation award of $140,000 in scholarships to 160 students; Women's Badminton Team won its fourth consecutive state championship; project report by the Department of Facilities and Maintenance; and five baseball player were selected to all-Orange Empire Conference teams.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: demolition on the property; tours for potential partners; continued work with Hartford Insurance on identifying four potential construction companies for completion of ATEP buildings; marketing the property for film shoots via a new web site FilmTustin.com; meetings with City of Tustin; establishment of an advisory committee; and students using facilities for film shoots. Provost Kopecky stated that the chapel will be maintained and improved.

• Correspondence in the Board agenda packet included letters and notes extending appreciation, commendation and compliments to the following, from SC: Kristin Benner-Hayes, Maureen Smith, Beta Epsilon Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Maria Paniagua, EOPS Program, and Mitchell Haeri; from IVC: Jeffrey Briar, President Roquemore and the baseball team.

CLOSED SESSION

• The Board voted to authorize the filing of a petition for review in the Supreme Court in the IVC Academic Senate v. SOCCCD litigation and authorized pursuit of settlement.
