• Board President David B. Lang will be facilitating a special forum on accreditation progress on April 23. He hopes there is a good turnout. He congratulated both Colleges on how well they ranked in a recent state report.

• Vice President Donald P. Wagner discussed the important work of the IVC and SC Foundations, which provide excellent ways for members of the community to get involved. He thanked David and Lynn Robinson who hosted a reception for the IVC Foundation Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes reported on the most recent meeting of the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative Task Force during which a presentation was made by United Way . He complimented SC on the outstanding performance of Evita . He shared concerns about the possible negative impact of the sub prime loan market conditions on the District's basic aid funding.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker commented on the wonderful IVC Foundation event at the Robinson's home. She complimented SC's performance of Evita and the cultural opportunities in a recent Spanish class, commenting that they reflected the excellence of our colleges. She reminisced about taking a course from Craig Grossman when running for the Board over 20 years ago.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg attended IVC and SC Foundation events and the SC men's and women's basketball playoffs this month.

• Trustee John S. Williams is looking forward to upcoming events including a tour of ATEP and a breakfast for K-12 leaders.

• Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly will be traveling to Sacramento to accept an award as one of the Phi Theta Kappa All-California Team. She mentioned that SC ASG is hosting an Awareness Week April 9 – 12 and extended congratulations to her honors speech professor, Craig Grossman .

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur congratulated Elizabeth Kelly on her state honor. He complimented both College Foundations on the fantastic job they do raising friends and funds. He attended the Association of Governing Boards Conference in Phoenix and has shared with the Trustees and the executive staff what he learned from the various sessions and in networking with other educational leaders. He introduced the new ATEP Dean of Instruction and Student Services, Dr. Cathleen Peterson. She is currently a Dean at Rio Hondo College and will begin at ATEP on April 9.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: 800+ high school seniors attended Senior Day on March 8; math Professor Larry Perez presented a paper to the California Mathematics Council Annual Conference; Fourth Annual Mathematics, Science and Engineering Academic Triathlon; Fine Arts performances and upcoming events; 25 paramedic students graduated in March; Emeritus Institute stained glass class donated a work to the library; and the Foundation scholarship campaign raised $20,000 in new scholarships while employees donated over $26,000.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: Foundation received a $50,000 anonymous donation to the Wind Symphony for the fourth year in a row; Wal-Mart donated $1,000 to underprivileged students; 500+ seniors from 21 area high schools attended Senior Day on March 6; the speech and debate team won the first place sweepstakes among all two- and four-year schools in the novice category of a tournament in Los Angeles; the honor society received the Pinnacle Gold scholarship award for increasing membership; and an open house for Japanese and Chinese foreign language departments.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: beginning negotiation meetings with selected partners; award to the Center for Applied Competitive Technologies for increasing the number of photonics courses inside aerospace companies; campus construction progress; and an update on outreach efforts to publicize Fall 2007 classes.

• acceptance for review and study the SOCCCD Faculty Association proposal and set a public hearing on the proposal at the April 23 Board meeting.

• a contract with Wenger Corporation for $467,862.47 for orchestra shells, riser systems, seating and music related accessories in the IVC Performing Arts Center.

• IVC curriculum revisions for the 2007-08 academic year.

• SC and IVC Community Education courses, presenters and compensation for summer 2007.

• Al Tello, IVC Foundation Director, and Howard Klein , Chairman of the IVC Foundation Board of Governors, introduced a video presentation about the Performing Arts Center Capital Campaign.

• Tracy Daly, District Director of Marketing and Public Affairs, made a presentation about the new District website which will be unveiled in April.

• A presentation about distance education and new learning approaches at SC and IVC was made by Dr. Andreea Serban , Vice Chancellor, Technology and Learning Services; IVC Professor Bob Urell , Business Sciences; and SC Professor June Millovich , Social and Behavioral Sciences.

• The Board received information regarding outcomes of the November 2006 accreditation progress visits and implications for October 2007 accreditation midterm reports. There will be a special forum on accreditation April 23 from 3 to 5pm in the SC Health Sciences Building auditorium, prior to the April board meeting.
