A resolution was presented to the Center of Applied Competitive Technologies at ATEP and its Director, Larry DeShazer. The Center was honored with the Distinguished National Science Foundation “ Center of Excellence for Optics and Photonics Education” award.

Carol Tagayun, Area Manager of External Affairs for AT&T, presented a $10,000 check from AT&T to IVC.

Daryl Mills of the California Energy Commission's Public Programs Office in Sacramento presented IVC with an Energy Efficiency Award.

SC Vice President for Instruction Rajen Vurdien , accompanied by Academic Senate President Bob Cosgrove , announced that the Gauchos Football Team won the 2006 National Bowl Championship of the Mission Conference. The Gauchos are now in the playoffs for the state championship.

Lise Telson , SC Vice President of Student Services, Norma Yanni , Chair of the Multicultural Celebrations Committee, and Professor Cosgrove shared the College's accomplishment in receiving the State Chancellor's Award for Best Practices in Student Equity for the Kaleidoscope of Diversity program.

• President David B. Lang recognized the years of dedicated service from Donna Martin , the Executive Assistant to the Board of Trustees, who will be retiring at the end of this year. He congratulated the four students who were featured in a recent issue of Today's Woman of South Orange County and acknowledged Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly on her recent quote in a story in the Irvine World News about having a law school at UCI. He extended best wishes to one and all for a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.

• Vice President Nancy M. Padberg wished everyone in our college community a blessed Thanksgiving. She acknowledged the passing of Nobel prize winner Milton Friedman and requested that the meeting be adjourned in his honor. She congratulated the College Foundations who have raised more than $100,000+ this month for our colleges. She has been attending SC football games and has seen many articles in the OC Register about the Team's accomplishments.

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes reported on the activities of the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative Task Force. They met this month with representatives of the Orange County Business Council and the Orange County Workforce Investment Board. The Task Force is hosting a breakfast for state legislators next week to brief them on priorities for the year. He saluted IVC for their Veteran's Day ceremony and the groundbreaking for the Business Sciences and Innovation Center.

• Trustee William O. Jay congratulated the SC and IVC Foundations on their successful events and the tremendous job they doing in raising funds for our colleges. He acknowledged the SC Football Team and the staff and coaches who work so diligently. He expressed that it was time to initiate a capital campaign for a new stadium at SC. He mentioned that the Board attended the groundbreaking of the IVC Business Sciences and Innovation Center.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker thanked Donna Martin for her years of service. She congratulated the SC football team and thanked Vice Presidents Vurdien and Telson for bringing to the Board the accomplishments of the Football Team and the Kaleidoscope of Diversity program. She called attention to the many SC performances in the coming months. She enjoyed announcing that she was recently accepted into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at SC because of her high GPA.

• Trustee Donald P. Wagner congratulated the SC Football Team. He attended an IVC Foundation Board meeting and reflected that both IVC and SC Foundations present a wonderful opportunities to get involved with first rate business and community leaders on behalf of our students. He attended the well-organized IVC Veterans Day ceremony and acknowledged the participation of Student Trustee Kelly and Professor Frank Pangborn.

• Trustee John S. Williams congratulated the SC Football Team. He mentioned that there was a need to look at a new stadium for football as well as other sports and events. He expressed good wishes to Donna Martin and thanked Lynn-Holly Johnson , the SC Alumni of the Year, for her participation in the recent SC Foundation dinner.

   

• Student Trustee Elizabeth Kelly congratulated the Gaucho Football Team and the Laser Women's Volleyball and Golf Teams on their accomplishments. She has been a Trustee for six months and used the occasion to thank the Board and Chancellor Mathur . She also thanked Darryl Cox for organizing the IVC Veteran's Day ceremony during which she was honored to be a speaker. 

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur congratulated SC, IVC and ATEP on their many accomplishments this month. He mentioned that ATEP was receiving partnership proposals this week which would be evaluated and then presented to the Board. He displayed a plaque that was presented to the District for ATEP's support of the Padrino's ChocRide event. He attended the American Association of Community Colleges Commission on Research, Technology and Emerging Trends in Washington , D.C. and announced that he was appointed by the State Chancellor's Office to the Technology and Telecommunications Advisory Council. He recognized Donna Martin and extended to her best wishes in retirement.

• SC President Richard McCullough 's written report included mention of: 50+ universities were represented at Transfer Day; Arts performances; Faculty Art and Photo Exhibition; Assistant Dean Tammy Rice was honored for her work as a leader in associate degree nursing education in California; Friends of the Library activities; Foundation “Surf City” Gala raised $55,000 for student scholarships with more than 275 guests.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore 's written report included mention of: Women's golf team takes second place in the Orange Empire Conference; Foundation's 11th Annual Golf Tournament raised almost $50,000; hosting the Hands on the Sun 2006, 6th annual “HOTS” symposium for amateur solar observers; and Professor Roopa Mathur conducted a joint presentation about computer security with the Irvine Police Department.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky 's written report included mention of: two of the five buildings for the initial campus have arrived and are being assembled; Children's Hospital of OC awarded a plaque to ATEP for their support and assistance with the Padrino's ChocRide event.
