• Board President David B. Lang shared sentiments in the spirit of Yom Kipper. He thanked Chancellor Mathur, Trustee Fuentes and the teams at the District and Colleges for all their work on the many events during September. He congratulated Dr. Glenn Roquemore on receiving the Administrator of the Year Award.

• Vice President Donald P. Wagner thanked President Roquemore for the fine 9-11 ceremony and both Colleges for their hospitality at recent Board discussion forums for employees. He attended the Education Alliance dinner and encouraged everyone in the community to take a look the organization, of which he is a board member. He provided an update from the organizational meeting of the Orange County Legislative Task Force.

   

• Clerk of the Board Thomas A. Fuentes introduced Steve Knoblock, a member of the San Clemente City Council, who was in attendance at the meeting. He saluted Student Trustee Matthew Reynard for his comments at IVC's 9-11 ceremony.

• Trustee William O. Jay attended a terrific performance of the Four Freshman at SC and reminisced about hearing the original group in 1955. He is looking forward to IVC's upcoming performances at the new Performing Arts Center. He congratulated SC Dean Ken Patton on the National Science Foundation grant.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker mentioned that the Board forums are a good good way to communicate and learn what is going on at the Colleges. She has attended many events this month. She thanked President McCullough for spearheading the Veterans Memorial on the SC campus and encouraged everyone to contribute. She congratulated Dean Ken Patton for his work which has resulted in SC receiving a National Science foundation grant.

• Trustee Nancy M. Padberg attended many events and discussion forums at the Colleges, an Educational Alliance dinner, and a meeting of the Orange County Transportation Authority Stakeholders Working Group for the South Orange County Major Investment Study.

• Trustee John S. Williams attended the 9-11 ceremony and Board forum at IVC, and the opening of the Orange County Sheriff's Academy in Tustin.

• Student Trustee Matthew Reynard attended both Colleges' 9-11 ceremonies, the SC Foundation dinner and the IVC Board forum. He will be meeting this month with student governments to discuss projects and goals for the year.

• Chancellor Raghu P. Mathur recently attended a state budget workshop. In the 2008-09 academic year, the COLA adjustment is projected to be between 3 and 4 percent and enrollment growth at 3.5%. The SC Business and General Studies building renovation is expected to be completed in February 2008 and classes can begin next summer. Dedication events are planned for ATEP on Friday, October 19 and the IVC Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, October 30. He thanked Trustee Wagner for inviting him to the Education Alliance dinner and congratulated Administrator of the Year President Roquemore and Manager of the Year Laura Abrams, District Payroll Manager.

• SC President Richard McCullough's written report included mention of:32 sophomore student-athletes have been identified as Scholar-Ballers; students who participated in UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program had an admit rate of 100% for fall 2007; the College increased from number 7 in transfers to number 3 in transfers to USC in one year; KSBR activities and accomplishments, including a feature in a Rancho Santa Margarita magazine as “Rancho's Favorite Radio Station”; and a promotional video by Instructor Marc Hughston for marine science technology programs.

• IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: television commercials airing weekly on Cox3 “Game of the Week” and popular channels targeted at the high school audience; IVC Art Gallery's first fall show, Magnificent Obsession, New Work by Douglas Cason, a Houston-based artist; Music Department's launch of its fall 2007 Piano Series; Foundation received a $10,000 gift from the Volunteers at Irvine Regional Hospital and Medical Center for scholarships; and Sheriff Michael S. Carona spoke at the 9/11 commemoration.

• ATEP Provost Robert J. Kopecky's written report included mention of: the campus is open and serving 400 students; finalizing spring 2008 course offerings; outreach and marketing efforts; planning the dedication event on October 19; and continuing progress in developing a master plan.

• accepting an award of $3,951,965 from the National Science Foundation for the SC National Center for Rapid Prototyping and Additive Manufacturing Technologies project.

• inclusion of District/Board of Trustees' Response in the SC and IVC mid-term accreditation reports.

• integrating the Board meeting request to speak and voting systems with the same technology provided by Granicus that makes board meetings available for viewing online. Hilda Stevens, Special Districts Market Manager for Granicus, provided a demonstration.
