REPORTS AND COMMENTS

• President Wagner welcomed Dr. Robert Kopecky to his first meeting as Provost of the Advanced Technology and Education Park (ATEP) in Tustin.

• Vice President Nancy M. Padberg welcomed the new student trustee. She is looking forward to the Saddleback College Foundation Western Gala coming up on Saturday, November 6 (949-582-4479 for information and tickets). She participated in the Saddleback College Alumni Association Gaucho Gallup 5K/10K race and is looking forward to next year's event.

• Trustee Thomas Fuentes thanked the many faculty members who spoke at the meeting to share their perspectives. He discussed that the first job of trustees is to represent the taxpayers and emphasized how important it is to consider all the District's more than 2,200 employees, in addition to the 300 full-time faculty members.

• Trustee William O. Jay stated that he had attended many campus activities during the month.

• Trustee Marcia Milchiker sat in on the exit reports of the Accreditation Teams at both Colleges during which the excellence of the faculty, staff, Colleges and District were highlighted.

• Trustee John Williams noted that a debate is being held between the Saddleback College Republican and Democratic student clubs (Monday, November 1).

• Student Trustee Brittany Poulton thanked everyone for their warm welcome and support.

• Chancellor Mathur welcomed the new student trustee. He acknowledged that many faculty members are concerned about the contract. The negotiating process can be a difficult one, but he expressed optimism that if both sides can continue to discuss issues in good faith, a fair and equitable contract can be accomplished in the near future. A Chancellors' Roundtable was held and well attended by business and community leaders. Presentations were made about the District, ATEP and our Colleges, and participants shared many ideas and suggestions about how we can better serve the community. The Roundtable was attended by Assemblywoman Patricia Bates , Vice President Padberg and Trustee Williams.

• Saddleback College President McCullough congratulated Gaucho Gallup winner Vice President Padberg and presented her with a medal. Dr. McCullough 's written report included mention of the first job fair held in the Automotive Technology Department by the Tuttle-click Group; a number of student achievements in television including a motion picture shot at the ATEP campus; A+ Certification prep class that prepares students for computer company entry level employment; fall plant sale on November 18 and 19; and KSBR live broadcast at the new Health Sciences Building fundraising kickoff event.

• all consent calendar items, academic personnel actions, and classified personnel actions. Classified personnel actions tabled for a future meeting were Exhibit E. 1-11, salary adjustments for classified leadership positions, and Exhibit G. 1, telecommunications and network security manager position. A few classes on the Saddleback College Community Education spring 2005 schedule were tabled for future consideration, If you wish to know specifics, please contact the Office of the President or Deputy Chancellor.

• resolution in support of the California Community College System Response to the California Performance Review.

• hiring priority lists for 35 full-time faculty positions at Saddleback College and 17 full-time faculty positions at IVC.

• purchase of 137 computers for IVC, 76 computers for Saddleback College, and 60 computers for the District.

• use of $2,870,000 from basic aid funding to build maintenance and police facility at IVC, and hire LPA to provide architectural services.

• an agreement with International Parking Design, Inc. to conduct a parking study at Saddleback College.

• an agreement with Carrier-Johnson to conduct a feasibility study for a Math/Science/Engineering Annex building at Saddleback College.

• an agreement with GKK to provide architectural services for the remodel of the James B. Utt Library at Saddleback College.

• $28,260 grant application from IVC to the Foundation for California Community Colleges for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families – Child Development Careers project.

• $742,601 grant application from Saddleback College to the National Science Foundation for the Aquarium and Aquaculture Science Curriculum, Laboratory, and Faculty Enhancement project.

• 2004-05 budget of the Associated Students of IVC in the amount of $320,037.

• IVC study abroad programs in China next summer.

• agreement for Saddleback College to offer online “Six Sigma” quality training, a cooperative effort between the Business Science Division and Community Education.

• expenditure for the royalty rights for Saddleback College to stage “ 42 nd Street ” next spring.

INFORMATION ITEMS OF NOTE . . .

• The Board received a report on locally funded projects which included progress at ATEP and the two Colleges on new construction, repair, remodel, and parking.

• Correspondence in the Board agenda packet included positive feedback about Irvine  Valley  College : Emeritus Institute senior administrative assistant Georgia McClusky, Executive Assistant to the President Marilyn Radenovic who volunteered for the Heart Walk, and the Emeritus Institute course “Film as Literature” instructed by John Dowden.
