CHANCELLOR PROFILE
Educational preparation, including an earned doctorate from an accredited institution, previous experience in community colleges, other postsecondary education institutions, and/or business and industry are important preferred criteria for the position. In addition, the Chancellor for the South Orange County Community College District will, in the areas designated below, be an administrator who is:
Governance
- Able to work productively with an elected seven-member Board of Trustees.
- Able to understand and implement mandated shared governance.
Student and Community Orientation
- Student oriented, listening to and caring about students’ needs and concerns.
- Knowledgeable of the role of community colleges in economic development.
- Visible on the campuses and in the community.
Leadership
- A dynamic leader possessing interpersonal skills necessary to build a sense of community within the District, and establish viable linkages with external communities.
- Able to create and maintain administrative and faculty environments that encourage and support innovation.
- Able to identify needs and priorities and make decisions in a climate of competing interests.
- Able to effect conflict resolution.
- Fiscally responsible, resourceful, and creative in ways to generate new revenues.
- Both well-organized and visionary.
- Knowledgeable of developing technologies and their roles in learning and administration.
- Committed to the collective bargaining process as mandated for California Community Colleges.
Communication and Consultation
- Able to maintain rapport with faculty and staff of the District’s colleges.
- An effective communicator, able to listen to others, inspirational, open, responsive, and able to establish and maintain a climate of trust and collegiality.
Diversity
- Able to work with diverse populations, maximizing the benefits of diversity.
Advocacy
- Politically astute, able to communicate effectively with local and state legislators.
